Nike Zoom Fly 5 的关键更新之一是中底中央的 ZoomX 泡沫。它柔软、轻便、反应灵敏，周围是一层 SR-02 EVA 泡沫，更加耐用，使鞋底装置既能发挥训练鞋的作用，又能发挥赛车鞋的作用。这两种泡沫共同构成了一个厚实的中底，具有出色的减震性能，从而在长距离运动时保护脚部。
贯穿中底中央的是一块碳纤维板。这不仅增加了推进力，还有助于稳定鞋身，同时它的勺形设计还能使脚部向前摇晃，从而实现平稳过渡。大底在鞋底的覆盖面积更大，呈现出比以前更宽的基础，从而提供更好的平衡性和牵引力。
Zoom Fly 5 的鞋面也进行了更新，现在由坚韧而轻便的网眼布制成，透气性好，能很好地贴合脚型。配合动态鞋带系统、中足部的贴合设计和结构化后跟，可提供出色的锁定效果。鞋舌和后跟等关键部位的额外衬垫营造出训练鞋的舒适感，使其完全适合日常穿着。
